Wellfleet is often referred to as the “Art Gallery” town as many of its year round residents are writers and artists. Today there are over 20 galleries in Wellfleet. Located on one of the thinnest parts of the Cape, as the Bay and the ocean are less than three miles apart. Sprinkled in between the two shores are delightful fresh water ponds. These ponds were created by glaciers and feature clear fresh waters with white sand bottoms. Much of the land remains in its natural state as the National Park Service and the Aububon Society are owners of almost half of the land. The quaint Town Center of Wellfleet, located next to the Harbor and the Town Pier, thrives with busy shoppers and browsers exploring the many shops and restaurants.
