Bourne Real Estate Cape Cod
The Town of Bourne is made up of 5 seaside villages: Cataumet, Buzzards Bay, Pocasset, Sagamore and Monument Beach. Most of the land through which the Cape Cod Canal was constructed is contained within the Town of Bourne. It was historically settled by the Pilgrims based on its strategic location along the waterways for trading with the Dutch colonists in the New York area. As Massachusetts became more industrialized, Bourne became increasingly popular as a seaside escape as wealthy urban residents constructed beautiful summer homes. President Grover Cleveland spent his Presidential summers at a mansion here known as Gray Gables. There are numerous sandy beaches and pristine wooded forests. The area is also popular for water sports, fishing, shell fishing and the Cape Cod Canal is widely used by many boaters. Bourne has an extensive nautical history and is also home to the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
